I don’t know which one is the best, per se, but we have a 42" Samsung that has been great. Had it for over three years now and no problems, HD channels look great, and it’s been overall a great purchase.

Sony’s way too expensive compared to the others. I have a Samsung 40" LCD and I like it, but since my cable kinda sucks it doesn’t do too well with that but it’s no fault of the TV. The HD channels are great, and so are DVDs. I’d recommend Samsung, but Panasonic is good too. I’d shy away from GE.

At the moment, the two best TV brands are LG and Samsung. Don’t buy a really cheap TV, go for a Mid Range or higher if you are able to.

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: Other people are saying that if you pay more you get more. This is completely wrong. Go out and look for the most competitive price.

Just bought a 42" Panasonic. My biggest recommendation is service, service, service. What happens if it breaks, who’s responsible, who picks it up, in house/out of house. Ask these questions. Panasonic has excellent service

SONY DOESN’T MAKE PLASMAS THEY MAKE LCD’S. Pioneer makes the best plasmas.

I would definitely have to agree with the fact that Pioneer makes the best plasmas, seeing as to how numerous magazines have any given Pioneer listed as the best plasma in the market. Sony makes the best LCDs in my opinion. Since those are vague answers, I’ll break it down for you. If you go with a plasma, Panasonic is the best bang for your buck. However, their color is so "animated", it seems cartoonish at times. Samsung would be my personal opinion for a mid-range plasma, however, like Panasonic, they too have some problems. The contrast on Samsung tvs may require recalibration depending on your setting. Simply put, if you watch a person in a dark alley, it looks as if the color on the person’s face is painted in squares. LCDs aren’t great for moving picture, unless you get a Sharp Aquos or Sony XBR series. If you have the room for it, I would highly recommend a DLP rear projection any day over any plasma or LCD.

Pioneer is by far the best maker of Plasma televisions, but they are also fairly expensive. Without getting too expensive Panasonic would be your best bet. They have good pricing, good service, and a good picture. Samsung is a close 3rd.
